2020 Freedom Fund moves $67K to Black-led organizing in Detroit

November 9th 2020

The Transforming Power Fund launched the Freedom Fund in solidarity with community groups leading direct action to demand justice for George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and those organizing for systemic shifts away from institutions perpetuating violence.

The goal of the Freedom Fund is to support community-led efforts that promote the well-being of majority Black Detroit, and invest in organizations that are demanding transformative policy change.

The Freedom Fund will distribute $7,500 grants to nine organizations totaling $67,500. Grantee projects center care, safety, wellness, and healing for Black people in Hamtramck, Highland Park, and Detroit, and will be executed over a one year timeline.
