Capacity Building Fund (2023)

About

The Capacity Building Fund supports newly emerging and established organizations in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park that are led by and for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) who use community organizing to promote transformative systems change.

The fund will provide one-year grants of general operating support ranging from $10,000 to $20,000.  Deadline to apply is June 14th, 2023 @ 11:00pm.

Capacity Building Fund grant partners help build strong social justice movements in Detroit and shift us towards community-driven solutions that promote systemic change. 

Grant partners implement strategies that prioritize leadership and representation from groups that are most impacted by the issues. They also have a clear or emerging strategy behind their organization’s efforts and can share why it’s especially strategic in this current political environment.

How to Apply

You must submit your application via our grants portal Submittable. A complete application will have:

  • A (1) cover sheet, (2) proposal narrative, and (3) organizational budget
  • If your organization is a 501c3, you must provide your 501c3 letter of determination
  • If your organization is using a fiscal sponsor, you must provide a fiscal sponsor/fiduciary agreement letter and their 501c3 letter of determination

Applications are due June 14th @ 11:00pm EST. We will not consider late or incomplete applications.

Info sessions are an opportunity for applicants to learn more about the grant and ask program staff your questions. Live info sessions are open to the public to attend on May 10, 2023 at 10:00am & May 15, 2023 at 1:00pm.
